Sharing Your Gifts in the Celebration of the Mass

“Know, O Christian, that the Mass is the holiest act of religion. You cannot do anything to glorify God more, nor profit your soul more, than by devoutly assisting at it, and assisting as often as possible.”

There are so many ways to share your gifts as we celebrate each Mass at St. Joseph’s. Quarterly training is provided, and our interactive online scheduling software makes it easy to update your availability from season to season. Please email the Parish Office or call 515-266-2226 for information on our next training dates.

Current volunteers are asked to update their online profile by August 7 for the next schedule, which runs September 2 – December 31, 2023. If you have forgotten your password, please email the Parish Office.

ALTAR SERVERS

Altar Servers are trained in the fifth grade directly by Fr. Chris, and provide assistance in all parts of the Mass. Ideally, three servers are scheduled for each weekend Mass.

EUCHARISTIC MINISTERS

Eucharistic Ministers are once again being assigned. The Eucharistic Ministers assist in distributing the Body and Blood of Christ during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

HOSPITALITY

St. Joseph Hospitality Ministers provide an atmosphere of “radical” welcome to all who enter the doors of St. Joseph Church. Duties include joyfully greeting, ushering, serving as an “information booth,” and helping spread the word about upcoming parish events. Teams are scheduled for each weekend Mass.

LECTORS/READERS

Lectors proclaim the First and Second Readings during the Liturgy of the Word. Two lectors are scheduled for each weekend Mass.

MASS COORDINATOR

Mass Coordinators arrive approximately 30 minutes prior to each weekend Mass to ensure that all ministries are properly filled. If there appears to be a shortage for any scheduled ministry, the coordinator will extend personal invitations to other qualified ministers who are not scheduled but are present in the church for Mass.

MUSIC & WORSHIP

The Music & Worship Ministry seeks to provide a spiritual emphasis to the Mass through beautiful and relevant music and an aesthetically rich environment. This ministry is a wonderful way to share your musical and artistic gifts.
