Sunday School at St. Joseph Church, for children ages 3-6, is held during the 10am Mass the first three Sundays of the month, starting in October and ending in May. Children are dismissed prior to the Liturgy of the Word, and are picked up from their classroom immediately after Mass. To help ensure a comfortable experience for all children, please follow the age guidelines.
The philosophy of offering Sunday School during Mass is for our young parishioners to hear the Scripture stories of the Mass at their level of understanding. They will then participate in crafts and activities connecting the main ideas of the readings. It also allows parents of these young children to have a quality, uninterrupted experience at Mass.
At least two volunteers are needed to assist the catechist with the 20-30 young students who attend Sunday School each week. Volunteers must be at least in 7th grade. The commitment can be weekly, once a month, or occasional. Hours served can be counted for service-hour requirements.
Sunday School resumes on October 6. If you have questions, concerns, or wish to share your gifts as a volunteer, please email Paulette Roche or call 515-210-5399.
Registration for our 2019-2020 Sunday School year is now open. Copies of the form are available in the main parish entry; you may also download the registration form. You may return the form(s) to the Parish Office by mail, in person, or in the collection basket during our weekend Masses.
